In 2014 the Parish Council wanted to commemorate the Centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. We decided to create a small garden on King Lane as a memorial to all those who served in the conflict. Local landscape gardener Liz Amirahmadi from Amira Gardens submitted a design to represent a Victoria Cross, which included lavender, forget me nots and, of course, poppies.
We also commissioned a sundial from Stephen Holehan of Sherburn in Elmet to form the garden’s centrepiece.
A curved bench was also installed with views up King Lane, together with a lectern
After everything had been installed Leeds City Council sent us details of a special commemorative bench and it was agreed that this would further enhance the area.
